Greetings from Colorado!

Do any of you gents know if a 1953 Wasp engine bay will accomodate a 1949 Commodore 8?

  • 'Uncle Josh' shoved a Commodore 8 into his Hornet, but I'm not sure about the shorter-wheelbase Wasp... Maybe he'll come along and give you his two cents' worth...
  • The Wasp is approximately 4" shorter than the Commodore and the shortage is all in the front. The firewall has a recess to accomodate the 6 cylinder and there is very little room from the engine to the firewall, even with the recess, probably not much more than 2". It would be a tight fit at any rate and the only way to know for sure short of just plain giving it a try is to measure the 8 and the bay. Another concern is the motor mounts and I would imagine that there would be a bit if fabrication in that regard. But, all that being said, anything is possible with time, patience, a cutting torch and monsy.
  • Will bolt right in. May have to change exhaust pipe.
  • The 8 is 2 inches longer than the 6. It sits on the same motor mounts. You will have to reverse the radiator brackets and remove the sheet metal shroud at the top front to move the radiator 2 inches forward
  • Radiator brackets are already reversed on the SWB. Doubt the eight can fit in and still have room for the radiator.
