Wtn

I need an E-mail address to find my WTN. I joined HET last month, my check cleared, but I haven't heard anything Maybe I got in between cycles and will have wait? I got my car home after 6 years of neglect at my son-in-laws place in Texas. It has deteriorated a lot, and I will need lots of stuff. The WTN ads are surely the best place to start looking. I want to order a parts and body procedures manual (if one/they exist) and I'm sure the club mag can put me on the right track. Not complaining, or suggesting anything wrong, but I'm anxious to get started. Thanks for any help.

You caught it in between cycles. The WTN is bi-monthly. The last issue was May/June, and the July/August issue will probably start going out in the mail around the middle of the month.

If you're new to HET, and you're in East Tennessee, check out the Smoky Mountain Heartland Chapter. And, be sure to join us in October for the 17th Annual Hudsons In The Heartland Meet at the Vacation Lodge in Pigeon Forge.

  • Thanks Bill and Rick for your response. I went to the HET site and ordered several manuals. Got to the Smokey Mtn Chapter site, and will fill out an app as soon as I can get to it. Have to be an HET member- How do I prove that?

You can send both chapter and HET dues to the chapter treasurer, who then fwds the HET dues on, in most chapters. We do it that way up here in the New England Chapter.

Most chapters will take your word that you've joined the National Club - and in case you're wondering why you have to be an HET member to join a chapter, it's mainly due to insurance reasons. The National covers most chapter activities - as long as your a member of the National, you're covered. At least that's my understanding.

The Region's Senior Director receives periodic listings of all National Club members living in that Region. The latest one was just distributed, showing membership as of July 1. The Senior Director usually forward these listings on to the chapters, so that they have a means of checking National membership. It also allows the chapters to find potential new members ... folks who live in the chapter's area but aren't chapter members.

    Rick and All.

I can’t speak for the other chapters but I can for the CBC. When we talk to a potential member the topic of National membership invariably comes up. People tend to be very straightforward about their membership in the National during this discussion. Potential members normally have an interest in getting as much information about their budding passion as they can find: so, non-members ask how to join the National while members proudly make it known. If there is any question, we collect both the National and Chapter dues from the new member and forward it to the Membership Chairperson.

Now, this is not to say that everyone is honest about it or that the issue doesn’t get lost in the conversation. For this reason, I verify all new members against the National by one of 2 methods. I keep a listing from the National, both the one Park previously mentioned and periodic updates I get form the Membership Person. If they are on the list, no problem; if not, I make a phone call and get it straightened up. The second method is a call to the National for verification of a new member which is not on the list.

The new members are never really a problem. In the 30 years I have been an officer in the CBC I can’t remember ever having a major issue with a new member. Where the real problem lies is with renewal members. Everyone is busy and people forget to renew their memberships, both National and Chapter. Twice a year I check all Chapter renewals against the National list. I also provide a list to the National Secretary prior to each National for their verification. This process works very well.

So Rick, when you joined we checked you out. And, by the way, your National membership is due for renewal in September. I hope you renew both your Chapter and National membership for many years to come.

I can’t think of any other way to verify National membership. The National does not give membership cards to be used for verification and to wait for a WTN to come to verify membership that way could take 2 or more months. This would require more attention by the officer, would lose the momentum of the prospective member and would put the Chapter at a further disadvantage. Strike while the iron is hot.

There is, however, one better method to deal with this entire process: make the Chapter membership mandatory and have it controlled by either the National or the Chapter. This would sure help out membership to both the Chapter and the National. Many, many Clubs require both chapter and national membership. Heck, one I belong to requires chapter, regional and national membership. Something to think about!

If anyone has a suggestion as to how to do this better, I would love to hear from them. This really is a bunch of work… but it is all part of the fun of being an officer.
  • Lewis:

Thanks for explaining about the Chapter membership in your post.

Could you please explain what I need to do to become a member of the CBC? I am currently a member of the national HET and I have officially received the WTNs without any problem straight to my mailbox.... but in the member ship listings on the hudsonclub.org website, my name and 52 Pacemaker do not show up anywhere. I have been a member since Dec. 2005.

    What do I do?
    -Thanks

As both the Chapter Treasurer and Editor, I verify membership several different ways.

Joe, we look forward to your becoming an SMHC member. Our next chapter meet will be on July 22 at Carver's Orchard & Restaurant in Cosby, TN. Look for additional details on the chapter website's Calendar page.

There is no real requirement that you join the CBC or any other Chapter for that matter. However, there are many advantages. One of the main advantages is that the National has different services available than does a Chapter.

The National puts out a great magazine with national advertisements. The Chapter will have a number of parts and service resources which are a big help in keeping your Hudson going. IN our chapter we have 2 mechanical shops, a restoration facility and a few parts vendors who never advertise in the WTN. In addition a lot of the chapter members have stashes of parts, specialties and knowledge which you would never know about without Chapter membership. A few of the helping hands we can offer include upholstery, paint, wood-graining, body work and mechanical advice.

Most of the social aspects and all of the meets are hosted by Chapters. The CBC puts on 14 meets a year, including one of the largest Hudson meets in the country. Without the hard work of Chapter members there would be no meets. So joining a Chapter is a good way to say thank you for the hard work done by those dedicated members.

The list of advantages is much longer than we can go into here. I would suggest that you join your local Chapter and give them a try. Dues are normally reasonable and the benefits are well worth the cost.

Hope this helps a bit…… if not give me a call and we can talk about it in detail.

P.S. I am also the HET webmaster. If you go to the email page you will find the email address for the list. We do not post anyones email or car information whoe does not request that we do so through this address. Some members don't want their information posted so I reqire that you let me know it is ok and provide the information neded prior to publishing your info (name, spouse, city, state, chapter membership, cars owned, email address)
