Recently, on one of my egroups, someone was inquring about a 308 powered '57 Hornet, in Austraila.
Is it possible some of these were actually produced for export only?? Would be an interesting item to have in the garage for sure.
Anybody got any clues - we must have some Aussie friends wandering around this forum.

A year or so ago I sold a set of Hudson books to a young lady who had a 57 Hornet and she said that the car was powered by a flat head 6. She bought the 56 manuals with information about the 6 as well as the complete AMC set for 57 Hornet.
I did not see pictures, but there have been stranger things done is US. I once owned a 54 Hornet Special that was titled in Nebraska as a 53 Hudson. The car was sold new in 53, but the car was a 54 Model. There have been other stories of similar DMV mistakes.

I remember reading somewhere here on the board that the export '57's did have the 308. What I don't remember reading is why Australia didn't get the AMC V-8...0

I was told by a friend of mine who was a Nash/Hudson dealer during 1957 that six cylinder production was normally only for the Austrailian market, but he was able to get an American verision to satisfy a customer that had ordered a 1956 Custom Hollywood late in the season, and somehow the order had been lost. So, AMC produced at least one American six cylinder Hornet - A Custom Hollywood with most of the bells and whistles of the time.
I tried to locate the car in 1974, because my friend (the now retired dealer) had told me the customer still had the car, and was looking to get rid of it.
As it turned out, it had become a rust bucket in the worst way, and I was no longer interested.

In Australia we got 2 varieties of 57 Hudson sedan. Don't know that any Hollywoods ever came here.
There was the old high roof 56 shell with 57 trim (with 56 trim holes filled in where necessary) and 308, which was assembled in Australia as were the earlier cars.
Then there was the 'proper' low roof 57 with the AMC V8, not sure if they were assembled here or came in fully built up.
And of course you all know about the 58 Hudsons sold in Australia.0 -
Thanks one and all - interesting to say the least. Now I have a little footnote for the Chapter newsletter!!!

It was on the drawing boards - I think a mockup was made. Seems to me I saw something in an older WTN.
It never made it out the door.
