Yup, looks rusted to me aswell. Question, who can tell me about those funky front and rear bumper accessory guards?
  • That outer frame rail is rusted through as far as I can see. I'd want to poke around with an ice pick on this one.

At what is that rear bumper thing? Looks like a luggage rack got bent upwards. Or maybe it protects the trunk lid in case you back over cow!

  • I know from looking through my service merchandisers you could buy that cow catcher bumper kit for your Hudson. Kind of funky I know Bill A has them on the front of one of his cars.

Would make more sense to me to have one on the front, if you wanted one. Sort of reminds me of the huge front brushgaurds I saw on so many cars and trucks when I was in Mudgee, Australia. I believe they are for kangaroos. I heard someone there say they have at least one car in the shop every couple days for kangaroo repairs!

Multiple choice. Those bumper accessories are actually:

    A. Trusses which prevent the frame from collapsing.

    B. A Rare Hudson clothes line accessory.

    C. Anti-theft devices intended to scare away thieves with good taste.

    D. Antennas for use in contacting the mother ship.
  • Dave, this post of yours I like.....:D

    My answer is C.

At first I thought cow catchers but looking again they are so big they might be elephant catchers.......

what a hoot....I wants me one I so love accessories that have more metal in them than the car they are on.
  • Dave, I'm going with "D" since I like a good sci fi story! Looks slightly better than the diamond shaped coat hanger antenna!

  • I am amazed there is any rust on the underside of this car as it is leaking so much oil you would think that would act as a rust guard:confused:

mine has a similar "coating" problem, but is super solid...

just that it would be easier to spray the underside with some oil versus having it applied via driving...

Oh well, to bad it didn't work better on this one...

I bet there's more rust than in just that one picture....
  • Actually, this was a delivery car for the very first King sized beds. The headboard and footboard wouldn't fit inside the car (that is where they put the mattresses) so they attached them to the front and rear bumpers! Doing this also helped remind the delivery driver which piece was the headboard vs. footboard.

  • Whatever you think of these guards, I would be concerned that if something did hit them up high, the force of leverage would cause more damage than these were intended to prevent.
