Progress on 49 Comm Conv

I have been getting some emails from fellow boarders asking what is up with the car. I have not updated the site due to lack of time, but the car is coming along. I finished painting it, but was not happy with the decklid and quarters so I decided to do them over. Funny how you can stare at something for weeks and not notice a low spot. Anyway, that being remedied and all will be the way I like it.

I am currently working on getting all the dents out of the all the stainless and having all kinds of fun filing, sanding, and polishing on the Baldor. I have not lost any limbs yet, but have come close. Lots of the chrome is already back from the chromer and I have the door and qtr glass assemblies done and ready to install.

This past weekend I just about finished the conv top assm. I had tore it down, sandblasted and primed it a few weeks back. I polished the stainless, had the hinges and arms re-chromed and had the shoulder bolts machined in stainless. This weekend I will finish it up, but this is what it looks like now. Will look nice once installed.

Still need to find someone I like to do the interior....

Speaking of someone who should get an award for their restoration...Dennis!

I hope I get to see this car in person someday. Your pictures show you have a good eye for the details and are doing clean precise work as you go.

Dennis do you have tons and tons of pictures but no time to go through them to post them on a web page? If so I might be able to whip something up that would make it easy to do.

I, for one, would like to see more of your work online!

Amazing and again thanks for taking the time to share your project with all of us.

Cheers from a very HOT, Heart of Texas.
  • Dennis,

That stuff looks great. If you don't mind a plug who did the chroming?

When I got back into academia I gave up my 6,000 sq ft. shop. Full restoration projects I just don't have the space for here at my house. I am envious!

Good luck and please post more.

    Best Regards,
  • I polished the long stainless trim pieces on the header myself. I am using a local guy for the chrome. Sabin's Chrome and Metal Restoration, in Hillsdale NY. Ken has a small operation but puts out great product. My advice to you on chrome is to find a similar guy, local to you if you can. I am not into shipping my stuff across the country. Also not into the big joints that advertises in all the car rags. Things get lost, the quality in my experience is lacking, and you have NO control. I drive over and see my guy or he stops by and picks up or drops off parts. Really a good relationship. In the extemely rare event I am not happy with a part, he redoes it. He is into the hobby and is as picky as me. I got lucky finding him.

By the way. When I send chrome out, I take digital pictures of it all, number them and make a corresponding list. I have them sign off on it so we are in agreement as to who has what.
