Hudsons with Cadillac Taillights!

Some of you will recall an article in White Triangle News two or three years ago about a large Hudson dealer in Chicago who made his own modifications to early step-downs before selling them. I wish I had the time to look up the article, but I think that the dealership was caled Custom Motors (maybe I'm confusiing a couple of different stories here). I beleive he called his modified Hudsons "Jets" two or three years before Hudson actually came out with the Jet. The only modifications that I recall at this moment were the addition of the Jet nameplate and baizarre fin-like castings on the rear that enabled replacemant the factory tail lights with '48 or '49 Cadillac ones. A so equipped '49 sedan was sold on ebay about a year ago by "trinketsandjunkseller". I only mention all of this because I beleive that four of those catings have surfaced after all of these years. it was courtessy motors in chicago, they used the jet name before hudson and also built baby hornets from pacemakers.
  • Nick I believe you are right. For those of you who have old WTNs, check out May/June 2004 - Volume 45, no. 5.

Wonder if someone would be so kind as to post a picture on the board. At the ebay site, I just get the little red X instead of the pictures. I have a customized '48, and those might fit right in with the early '50's look. Whats the deal with those little red X's, anyhow?

    Mike,

I'm bidding on these.... there are two sets. Perhaps we can split them? Niels

"Courtesy Motors", thanks for the memory jog. You other fellows can have these. I'm waiting for the original "take-offs" to show up!

Don't be so quick to judge. They cancelled the auction because most of the time their pictures wouldn't open. The fifth posting on this thread (from Mike (WA)) referenced this problem. These are good folks from Missouri who value their standing in the ebay community. I've done business with them before and I'm sure I'll do business with them in the future. I only discovered these items because I follow their auctions closely. They always have really interesting things. For what it's worth, I encouraged them to split them into two pairs. That way two of you with dreadful taste can get lucky!

I forgot to mention that the sellers are discontinuing their current photo hosting service because of the problems and will use ebay's for the time being. I was told to expect to see these items back on ebay in a day or two.

I have a piece of a script that reads "Baby Hornet" . Most of the "Hornet" part is missing. It came off one of those pacemakers that Courtesy Motors sold. The style was "sorta" 54ish. It originally was attached with small sheet metal screws. I got this from a pile of used parts when Merritt Marks moved to Tennessee from Florida. Double historic significance?:o
  • I'm going to buy Roth's Pebble Beach Italia and put a set of these on it...
