Hey Paul,
No doubt about it,it's what makes the world go round. It would be a pretty boring place if everyone was the same. Generally I have always been one for the underdogs and the less popular. Maybe the stepdown is the most popular of Hudson's and there is the most things for it, but all in all it is an oddball that you don't see around and there is very little support for it as compared to a Mustang or Camaro for example. I have started to warm up a little to the Jet's since being in the club but the 5,6,7 just hasn't grown on me at least yet. I did see a 52 Nash at the Baltimore port while on business last week. It was going to the middle east. Decent car, all there. Maybe a 3 or so. My boss who is in his 60's and I didn't care much for it looks wise but still appreciated it for what it was. It was fun to see amidst all the new plain jane cars there. As for your challenge for mileage and who will get there first, depends on what you got in yours and what type of course. If you got the V8 you should be faster but I doubt your mileage will be better especially with an automatic. If the run is going to have twisties in it you will be hard pressed taking on a stepdown IMHO. We also have to consider what each car is armed with both stock and added on. So far mine is a 54 Special 2 door with a stick, so stripped and fast right from the factory. Has a 262 head with Pertronix ignition,2 1/2 inch exhaust with an electric fan in place of the old steel unit. Suspension so far is stock with gas shocks, urethane bushings on the front bar and battery relocated to the trunk for better balance. Just converted it to 12v and it lost almost 40lbs in the process. Lost 12lbs with the alternator,10 lbs putting the radio delete plate in for the not working radio, and another 12 with the smaller 12v battery. It's all fun so what do you have?0 -
When I look at the 57 I say hey thats different0

yeah, they're ugly, but for some reason, I think it would be a fun car to drive around in... maybe a daily driver...
I think Hudsondad likes these a little, but I don't see one ever making it back to his place....
but you never know....0 -

I have it on good information that Nashes and 55-57 Hashs are being sent to the Middle East to be used for car bombs.....0 -

Better yet, we should take all of our old taxi cabs, fill them with garbage and a full tank of gas, and drop those instead of million dollar bombs. :rolleyes:0 -
Paul is right ! The 57's Handle quite well. The 327 AMC v8 is much lighter than the previous engines, so handeling is much improved, along with the lower vehicle by 2 inches.14 inch wheels, and lower roof crown. People should have a open mind, and not be 'so set in their ways'. Ya gotta drive one!0

No thanks, can't get past the cobbled together LQQKs. I would no more think of driving a car that didn't appeal to me than I would of crusing through life with an ugly woman.0 -

Having been a car collector for 30 years, I've had lots of cool cars that have gathered attention, but nothing can compare to my 57 Hornet.
My first morning out, It:) generated a crowd around it at the post office.
People have clapped as I drove it down the street.
Anybody out there know of a nice one for sale, please let me know. I'm a believer.
Were the people clapping or shooting at it? LOL0 -

okay, that was funny....
What I was thinking was that they were clapping beause they thought the car was leaving!
I got to drive one of these someday!0 -

Like Paul says, you can complain about the Mileage on your stepdown all you want, and the looks of the "57", but you can get 20+ miles per gallon on a "57, and more power !
Don't get me wrong, I own 2 stepdowns and a Jet and I love them !
I just like anything that says Hudson on it ! The First Hudsons built were assembled cars with different companies components in them. I like them too !0 -
IF YOU GO TO A HUDSON MEET IN A STEPDOWN CONVERTIBLE IT'S STILL JUST ANOTHER STEPDOWN IN THE CROWD BUT SHOW UP IN A 57 YOU WILL HAVE THE ONLY ONE THERE

What about a '55 2 door made into a gasser? I think that might be cool.0
