Posting pictures to the hudson forum.... how to...

I think there are a lot of folks out there that would love to share pictures to the hudson forum, but for some reason, are unable to make it happen.

Posting a picture on the internet is not that difficult, but requires you to have several things in place before you can successfully do it.

Here is a basic how to for those that want to know. There are other ways to do this, but this is the way that I do it....

Requirements....

1) Digital file of a photo, image, etc... should be a jpeg (.jpg attachment....)

2) Make sure it is of a reasonable size... much over 100kb will prove to be troublesome....

3) You need a place where you can upload (transmit, store) the digital photo. A lot of places offer this service, such as the msn group that the board seems to have a home for. Someone else will need to provide this information. I pay for dedicated server space for my website, and have space for my personal, and sometimes, others to use.

4) When you find a place to store your pictures (you will get a URL, or the address specific for where that picture is stored) take that URL, copy it, click on the yellow square with the mountains and the sun from the message icons above, and paste it in there. the message you are typing should show something like IMG surrounded by these [] brackets, the address where the picture is stored, the http://, with the .jpg of the picture name, then with the /IMG with the [] brackets surrounding it.

5) Preview your post, see if it shows up, if not try again, it's all pretty basic now... If your picture does not show up, take the URL of the picture, copy it, and paste it in your browser search bar, and make sure the pictures comes up. If it does not, then the picture is not hosted properly, if it does, then you did something wrong typing your message here on the board...., try again. it will work!

I hope this is of some help, any qestions, additional information, don't like what I wrote, feel free to comment.

  • and if you get me in a good mood, I might just allow someone to send me pictures, and I'll do the leg work of resizing and hosting, and such.... :)

but the bad news is that I cannot host them forever.... :(

F.Y.I., the official "Hudson" photo album site is at http://groups.msn.com/HudsonEssexTerraplaneBulletinBoard/_whatsnew.msnw .

This is our old bulletin board site on MSN, and the Hudson homepage has a direct link to it. At that website you can create a "Photo Album", uploading several photos with captions. Though the Classiccar "Photo Gallery" is extremely helpful and easily reached (there is a link at the top of this page), the pictures are placed there randomly. At the Hudson photo site you can group your pictures in your own album.
  • as an alternative, you can post pictures to a FREE third party photo hosting site (there are plenty out there) such as www.photobucket.com. Once uploaded, all you need to do is copy the Img line under the photo that they produce for you and you are good to go (no need to remember any commands). The nice thing about doing it that way is the photos stay in your post without opening up the extra browser session, and they are much larger. Free account users can upload files as large as 1MB as well, so there is not that pesky warning about making your file smaller.

however, be cautioned, 1mb picture sizes are tough on dial-up guys, and not real DSL friendly either....
