a question about fender spears
I have been looking at Hudsonkid's pics of a regional meet and I notice that there doesn't appear to be a pattern for the fender spears. Some two doors, some four doors, some Hornets, some Pacemakers have spears, but others don't. Was it simply an option? Was this option for all years of stepdowns and/or linked to an option or interior package?
Just curious, but also to help me determine what's needed to finish mine.
Thanks
Geoff.

They were an option available on all models 1948 to 1954 except Italia. 1948-49 used one smooth style and 1950-54 had rib on side.0

See, this is where I am confused....
48-49 have the "streamlined" type, 50-53 share the "rocket style" and for some reason, I have seen a few 54's with them on. I figured the 54's I saw, including your convertible, were either, early production, dealer added, restorer added, or just added, to aim the car down the road, I mean, hey, driving a hudson with the peaked hood ornament, and fender rockets, it is so easy to point it in the right direction....
Also, it must have been standard on commodore and hornets, extra on supers, pacemakers, and maybe wasps? still confused...0 -
Hudsonkid, you are correct about them being standard on Commodore and Hornet and option usually dealer installed on lower priced models an 1954. Parts and/oe accessory book does not list them for 1954, but dealers would install anything for an extra buck.0

The 48-9 had a fender top ornament that roughly complemented the hood ornament. In 1950 the style changed as has been pointed out and the resulting ornament now more closely matched the 50-51 Hornet,Commodore or Super hood ornament.. In the pre stepdown era fender top ornaments were a bit more functional some having lights in them.0

Thanks for the quick responses. It appears I will now have to purchase a couple of spears to chrome up my Pacemaker. They probably add a few extra horsepower too.0

If you don't find a set up near you, I may have mine to sell. Mines a '50 Pace Club Coupe, might work for you. Mine's getting shaved and I won't need them.
