All I want is a crummy house and a NICE SHOP!

Well the search in Eastern Washington didn't really pan out as the properties weren't what I was looking for. 1 had a 40 x 120 insulated shop - but on closer inspection just wasn't in nice shape and would have need too much to get it to a working state.
The other property was situated such that you had to drive through a pretty rough looking, old, old, single wide trailer park to get to it. Once you were there is was fairly private but again the shop was way too rough without having to spend a bunch o $$
So on the way back I stopped in Vantage and took Rambo and played in the Columbia River for an hour. It was a HOT 95 degrees and smokey from the forest fires (think LA smog but smells like campfire)
Anyway the House/'Hudson Shop' search continues but I thought I'd share this picture of the old man snoozing on the way back after a good swim! Enjoy!

I have one of those. To be honest, I bought it for the garage. I'm not sorry I bought it because the neighborhood is going to be rising in value in a big way, unless I miss my guess, but the house really needs a lot of work and by this time the crappy kitchen and bathroom are making me crazy. Good thing I'm not married because the average woman wouldn't put up with it. If you can get it cheap like I did, OK, but you ought to think about the house a little bit too. Just my .02. Good luck!0

Rambo looks like how I feel at the office these days!
Though I did get to ride in my client's new helicopter today. Flew out over 3 nearby lakes and a mini grand canyon a few miles away. Amazing stuff around here you never see driving around!
Dogs have it made! And they are easier to deal with than most people!
Ride on Rambo!0 -
Back here in Connecticut, I plan on building my next house and garage. It going to be a minimun 6 car garage with a bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. Unfortunately my wife of 34 years has other ideas.
I think were going to try to work out some type of mutual agreement, or else I will be the one sleeping in the back seat of my Hudson or in my van down by the river:)0 -

As my daughter says about her (2) rottweilers, 1 Lab/Rotty mix and Ralph (we have no idea what Ralph is - he's just Ralph!!) - be kind to your dog. There may come a day when he's the only friend you have!!!
Smart woman, my daughter.

LOL~ I'm a huge Chris Farley fan and if I don't find a house soon I may be "living in a van down by the river...eating government cheese...and waiting for my dreams to come true..."0 -

How about finding some land and building what you need? Maybe an apartment above a 12 car garage.0

Dave - thats a good point and I have been contemplating buying a piece or raw land and building.
Time is a factor for me right now for 2 reasons...- I can't do anymore work on the Hudson in the driveway and
- as I am renting back this house for only 6 months. It would take a min. of a year to buy and build a house and that would be if I had a piece of land in hand right now!
)
Right now I am looking at propeties either on acrerage or with already existing multiple lots that have a house and shop(s) on it. My thinking being if the property can be sub-divided or is already a seperate lot. I can get a construction loan build a home and then sell it to leverage the property and my monies.0 -

We are looking to do something similar. I currently have an attached 2 car garage which is OK... Anytime I start the Hudson or do any work that uses chemicals the house smells for hours. I would like at least a few acres with a modest house and a detached garage.

I tried it one time in a house I rented and it was just awful and very unhealthy. Most home furnaces or air pic ups are either in or very near the attached garage and then the fumes spread to the entire house.
LOL there was an episode of Ghost Hunters or some c r @ p show like that (really I don't watch them very much) but on this one a guy who buys and flips houses was renovating the current one he lived in.
His girlfriend called TAPS and was worried because they were seeing "ghosts" and hearing things.
Turns out ALL of his wood chemicals (stripping, varnishes, paints...) were down there and a lot of refinishing work was being done on cabinets and moldings AND his heating system was drawing air from this area! They also found large amounts of mold down in the same area.
Duh...common sense...look out its Casper! Nope...just hallucinating from chemical exposure...nothing to see here move along...:p0 -

A good high and penicillin! Thats all we needed back in the day! lol0 -
I recently got the shed I have wanted for years. We had generous three car garaging already but recently have build a separate 6mt x 8mt shed with a 3mt x 3mt workshop attached - fits nicely into the corner of the section. Just pefect for my two Essex Coaches.:)

Be careful what you all wish for. I have that crummy house and wonderful shop. Only one problem. Its a business on the home place. 11 acres and do you think I now have time to do anything except take in work and pay the bills?
Shop is big enough for 6 cars. Heated, insulated, office etc. But no free time. LOL.0 -

What's not too love there 37Terra? - Try spending and hour to drive 10 miles in Seattle... a NO commute home based job sounds pretty good!0 -
Dan,
I guess you could find a large parcel with a house on it and room to build. If you go with a prefab building (conventional construction built in a factory and assembled on-site) you'll have your shop(s) in a short period of time. Any old farms where you're looking? Or, maybe a large parcel with a large shop building on it and a place for a FEMA trailer, just until you can build a house.0 -

Doesn't "FEMA Trailer" stand for Formaldehyde Equals Mutual Asphyxiations? :rolleyes:0
