    Yup, I know... Been through the 'investigative process' with that one. According to Bill Albright, it was originally a sedan, and was converted to a pickup (in spite of what is posted on the site). It is not a real prototype, and neither are 99.98% of the conversions that are out there. Bill said that he owned that particular 'custom', at one time - and wasn't all that impressed with it...

    I DID NOT OWN THIS ONE, ALTHOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE A 52 WASP, MINE HAD A STOC 47 BED INSERTED BETWEEN THE REAR UARTERS. THIS ONE USED HALF OF THE TRUNK LID FOR A TAILGATE, NOT BAD IN LMY EYES. COULD USE SOME CHROME AND SOME DETAIL WORK, BILL ALBRIGHT

    So close...

    By that I mean good intentions and it only needs 2 changes to really pull it off - maybe I'll build my own someday and show you :D ...

    1. Strech the doors or get doors from a 2 dr since they're longer.
    2. Fabricate a rear cab section that fits the car/truck instead of chopping it off like you ran it through a bandsaw! The metal work shows no imagination and absolutely no skill - anyone could butcher the rear section like that and call it Kustom :p

    Exactly why I think its so ugly, looks like a hack job to me. 100% agreement with ya Dan.

  • Hey Les, saw a '57 Holden ute when I was in Mudgee a couple months ago. That was a cool ride! Nice canary yellow, lowered. etc. Sweeeeett!

  • I like the concept. Especially the way the tailgate and bed was done. Yes it is similar to an El Camino or even a Ranchero. No seperation between cab and body, and if memory serves me right, some of the earlier El Caminos and Rancheros had exposed hinges on the tailgate. Could it have been done any better? Sure, They could have any number of car builders do it, but I doubt they would have had as much fun as doing it themselves.( assuming that it is a homemade ) Like I said, Personally I like it and think the concept is better than the factory prototypes
    Since only two Factory Stepdown Pickups were known to to have been made, and are I believe accounted for, any Stepdown pick up that you find will almost certainly be a conversion.
