100 years ago Burra was a thriving copper mine town and had an active car club. This time each year they would drive for 2 days across country (80kms)following a cattle stock trail (no roads) to get to Morgan on the River Murray, then drive 2 days back again. A lot of cars would break down or get lost along the way. The club started doing this run in 1906 and continued each year to WW2. The club ceased when a lot of the men didnt return.

Today a few veterans came out of the woodwork for a centenary run.

1908 Darracq, 1909 Sizaire Naudin (French 1cyl 1.6lt)

1911 David Brown Valveless Dodson (1cyl 2 stroke)

1912 FN, 1912 SCAT,1912 Hotchkiss

1912 & 1913 Fort T, plus 2 other Ford veterans unsure of the years

1913 Newton Bennett, 1913 Siddeley Deasey

1914 De Dion with a V8 motor, and another 4 cyl De Dion veteran

1916 Overland, 1919 Dodge, 1921 Ruston Hornsby, 1923 Austin 12

1925 Sunbeam, 1925 Bean, 1925 & 1930 Alvis

Bikes - 1903 Kelecom, 1913 The Bradbury, 1925 Indian, 1927 Norton with sidecar.

I found out today that De Dions had v8s in 1910. Bad luck award went to Dave in a 1912 Ford T. Petrol gravity flows from tank under seat to the carby. He stopped about 10 times every few Kms with the same problem -fuel blockage. He eventually found a large dead spider inside the fuel line at a 90* fitting near the carby. Yes I have photos this time, but too many to post with this thread. Regards Barry
