  • yeah i have a friends 53 chev ill probably end up doing after im done here with this thing. his came without any wiring so its a blank canvas to play on. i am sure i'll end up with more cars to do in future the way my mind races each time i see some old tin laying around... thanks for the measurement. it will help a lot
  • its too hot to work on the car so ill sit here bored and post pictures of what ive done so far. this is the semi- finished dash.i painted it and fitted it only to decide id move the switches back to the lower section, that can wait til i buy a welder of my own so i can fill the holes
  • the 308 and 3spd overdrive fresh out of the rusted 55 hornet
  • gave the head a clean up, but i am a bit worried about how much will need to be machined from it to clean up the gasket surface, it was re assembled and left to sit without the head being torqued properly so the face is quite pitted. ill give it a good polish once i get it back from being machined

Holy crap.... Half baked, a cylinder head against the counch? nice touch... I have to guess, you must be single, or ready for a divorce. I know I would be one or both If I tried to get away with something like that....
  • haha thats sharehouse living for you.
  • Excuse my lack of knowledge here, but what exactly is "sharehouse" living? Are you like Felix sharing a house with Oscar from the USA sit-com The Odd Couple?
  • yeah pretty much. find a house. cram it full of people to split bills and rent with then see what happens!

that sounds like MTV real world down under.

If one of the people on that show had a hudson they were working on, I would watch it.

    I can hear it now...

"hey mate, pass me a vegemite sandwich"

gosh, I love messing with our aussie friends....

for what it's worth, tried the ole vegemite, let's just say it's "different" tastes like high octane soy sauce...
  • haha i think any reality show based on us would have to be rated for latenight, 2 of the guys here are easily agitated and swear a LOT, then another disappears on drunken benders for a few days. vegemite is probably an aquired taste, one guy that lived here has family in america and his brothers college buddies came to holiday after they had graduated, to rev them up id get a big spoonful of vegemite and start chewing on it while pronouncing "i f*&^$%^Y live here!" if you've ever seen the movie chopper you'd get the joke.
  • Keep the Vegemite, just give me some of those 1 pound shrimps! :p
  • my box of electrical goodies arrived today so i set my brother to work giving me a hand putting it all in. we ran out of light or we'd still be out there

  • ive got the main wiring loom made up as much to colour code as i could. busy wrapping it up now then ill finish up all of the terminals over the weekend hopefully. i got the cylinder head back from the machine shop today and the gasket set arrived during the week. hopefully i will have some time at the factory to work on the engine soon and figure out this hash gearbox installation. you gotta work with what youve got......
  • Sounds like you're going to be a busy little Ausie. Keep up the good work and don't forget to tip a nice cold Fosters when your done.

    G'day
  • fosters. australia's joke on the world. no one here drinks that rot. look for a bottle of resch's draught or coopers pale ale/ sparkling. meanwhile ill be finishing this bloody loom off....
  • Sorry, Foster's is the only Ausie beer I'm familiar with. Finish the loom and then have a nice cold Resch's draught and/or a Cooper's Pale Ale. Are you having problems with the "bloody" loom?
  • well its probably the worst beer in the country! haha. find the others if you can, they are much better. im not having any problems with the actual making of the loom, just finding terminals and such. the rear brake/tail light terminals in particlar, they are an interlocking 1/4 male flat tab. very similar to modern ones but with a large square hole instead of a small round one, the blade clips into the bulb socket on the positive (or neg in 6v neg ground) and there is a second clip that holds the tab in place in the ground terminal on the light body. if push comes to shove i will solder something in place.
  • Well, since I hardly drink beer at all, I have plenty of time to locate something good. I understand the frustration with the loom, finding terminals and such. But at least you don't live in a backward country where you can't find them.

Have you tried contacting Rhode Island Wiring and YnZ's Yesterdays Parts . Both sell parts.

  • i try to keep it local if i can but i will give these blokes a shot, it looks like a lucas interlocking tab but then its not quite the same...
  • steve conyers is my hero. not only does he locate me the correct carb for my car (it had been replaced with a wgd off a buick) quick smart, he is going to bring it to my house and all for a very reasonable price.
  • ive been holding back a little on working on the car just waiting for a few detail parts for the wiring loom to make it look a bit more professional. but today i got stuck back into it and got a bit done before it got too hot-it has been in the high 30's all week- thats over 100 to you yanks and after welding all week i need a break rant over- then did some more once it cooled down a little. so far the headlights/parklights and front indicators are done, washer motor, start circuit and gauges/idiot lights work so thats not too far off done. hooray

the head is back from the machine shop and once ive cleaned out the block and check everything is alright inside i'll check valve clearances and put it all back together. then its a matter of getting it back to the factory to use the crane to swap engines. still a long way to go on that front. but things are progressing. hooray again.

    isnt boredom fun.

Thanks for the update from down under. Sounds like she's getting closer.
  • today i got an extra pair of hands to get some stuff done and the difference it makes to have some extra motivation is uncredible. all of the circiuts work its just a matter of clipping and zipping the loom into place.
  • no foolin! it works!

i just caught my terrible typing error in the last post. uncredible. me fail english? thats unpossible!
