im going to rewire my 46 commadore from the firewall forward and cannot seem to find the wire sizes listed in the hudson procedure manual. should i just use number 12 thru out except for the batt / hot wire feeding the dash ? or is that too big ? i do see all the different colors and colored with diff. tracer colors but no sizes. anyone have an opinion ? off list answers are fine. thanks in advance.

I rewired my 1948 Commodore but I had a wiring diagram in the repair manual to go by. I'm sure that some of the wiring for your car should call for smaller gauge than just 12. Try to get a wiring diagram before you start. The number in front of the color is the wire size.
  • my 42-46 book only gives colors and of course there is a "fuse data" chart. this is on the wiring diagram which is very complete except for wire size.

This site has a table which tells you the maximum current each wire size can carry and a calculator to calculate the voltage lost in the wire for given current (Voltage Drop). This will help you select the correct wire size.
