Step down hood springs; what color?
Finishing up this and that on my 49, and need to paint the hood springs (not the hinges themselves) that hold the hood up. Mine had four different colors of paint on them, so I am curious to know what color they were from the factory. Where they black or the body color? I have seen them painted silver....
Thanks

I have seen lots of muted silver. I could be wrong but can't image that the cars when for paint with the hood hinges on.0

They were never painted on new cars. We clean them by bead blasting or with electric wire brush and then clear coat them.0 -
I'm for cleaning and clear-coating, or painting with a "natural metal look" paint. By all means don't be tempted to have them cadmium (or other finish) plated. The plating process makes them brittle, and the first time you close the hood you'll end up with a nice collection of little plated pieces!0
