Compatible temp sender

Anyone know of a temp gauge sender that'll fit in the smaller holes in the later engines but will work OK with the '49 and earlier gauges? I assume this is a pretty common problem, what with all the Hornet engines dropped in '49 and earlier cars.

How about for a stock '53 gauge and a...uhmm...non-stock engine? :D

    Would a '47 Require a different gas tank sending unit from a step-down ?

As a matter of fact, Park, Art Adams put a tech bulletin in a 1977 WTN on this very subject.

    Go to http://groups.msn.com/HudsonTechnicalInformation/_whatsnew.msnw

and click on TS 77-4 - 1948-1954 Cyl. Head Temp. Elements. Should answer your question.

Is there a part# for a replacement temp sender for a 54? Mine tested bad and my parts store can't find anything so far.

    Thanks,

Aaron, the sending units are same thru '50. The float arm might be a bit different for the stepdowns because of different tank dimensions, but the basic sender part is the same. Fords also used this Ling-Seely type type gauge and sender, thus Dennis Carpenter's replacements for, say, '46-'48 Fords, works fine. Using one on my '47.

Alex, thanks for the Bulletin reference. It at least gives us the right tap drill size in case we do "bore it out" for the earlier sender. I was hoping we'd find one that wouldn't require doing that.

That gives you a Hudson part# but what about something that can be used today?
