34 terraplane vin

I thought the serial number plate was posted on the front passenger door post (below windshield). What are the two different numbers (firewall versus title)? Maybe we can determine which is the most 'apt' for 1934.
Also, inspect the rear axle housing for a stamped serial number (Hudson put these on the axles in the 1930's). If it's there it will be on the passenger's (right) side at the 12 o'clock position (facing up) as I recall. Use a wire brush to clean off the rust.0 -
Also check under the hood at the top of the RH frame rail, roughly below the firewall.0

You may find that the engine number stamped on the block is what you need.
Old cars usually used that for indentification purposes.
On 1936 Hudsons, the "VIN" number is called the "car number", and is on a plate that is fastened with screws on the firewall drivers side.
Because it is fastened with screws, thieves used to switch the plates. So the DMV's back then used the numbers on the block to identify cars for registration pusposes.
In some states, the registration form explains that the engine number on old cars is used as the vin number.
This changed later on, as by 1940 (perhaps earlier, I don't know) Hudson vin number plates were riveted to the car body, I think to the the passenger door frame.
Apparently this was not good enough, as we all know now the vin is in an unaccessable place at the windshield, and will show attempts to mess with it.
Unfortunately, in the case of old cars that use the engine serial number as the vin, if the engine has been changed, the numbers may not match your current title or registration.
On antique cars, if that is the case, some states have a remedy, such as inspection of the car and your bill of sale, etc.0
