Mid 80's Grand Am rack and pinions have been used on Hudsons with success. They are rear steer with a center mounting point for the tie rods.

Craig Kistler and Walt Mordenti did the rack and pinion. Others have as well. Bill Odell did electric in his 35 Hudson cv.

The Pontious family have used the ram type power assist (from a corvette,I think) on 41s.

On at least one type of electric steering column, the horn wire cannot be used (with the regular horn button).  Button must be mounted elsewhere.  I don't know if this is true of all the electric steering columns.

There is probably a way to run it thru. The electric motor is spliced into the column. I am going to experiment with doing it the next time I work on one.

FYI

On my electric steering I didnt want a Tractor horn button so ran the horn wire outside the shaft but inside the column half way, then drilled a hole with grommet to go outside just below & over the motor then hidden inside the U shaped chrome turn signal wire cover (under the column). Then drilled the steering wheel, made a brush type contact down thru the wheel onto a thin insulated plate diameter of the s/wheel hub using turn signal switch cover screws. However, im certain there are other ways too...
