Leaf Spring Friction & Lube

A lot of places are selling low friction spring leaf liners to aid the

movement of the springs giving an easier ride. I have heard other folks say

you should not do this as the springs are designed to work with a certain

amount of friction. This argument goes further. Without this designed in

friction, the springs could easily bottom and rebound in a way that could

result in broken leaves and loss of control of the vehicle.

Further yet, I have heard some suggest that leaf springs should not even

be lubed with oil for the same reasons that leaf liners should be avoided. I

purchased a special penetrating oil product called Penephite that contains

graphite and is made just for lubing leaf springs, and now I'm uncertain if I

should be used or not. What do you think?
