A Visit With Sig Caswell

Sig Caswell has been a fixture in the SoCal old car community for as long

as there has been an old car community. As I understand the story, the first

ever local chapter in the HET was formed at Sig's place and our own Pete Booz

was present and involved right from the start.

He has been interested in Hudsons from the beginning, one of his first

cars being a 1912 Model 30 four cylinder Touring, a car he has now owned for

47 years! Last Sunday, Sig had an open house at his place in Rosemead, CA for

some of the local car clubs and showed his collection including the lovely

old the Hudson off. It was a rare rainy day in SoCal, so the old Hudson

remained in the garage, but it was uncovered and invited inspection.

More germane to this list, Sig has also at one time owned an '18 Touring,

one of the LWB '29 B & S Sedans, (Did this one go to you Pete?) and a LWB B &

S Dual Cowl Phaeton. He still has one of the rounded trunks from one of his

'29s and would like to find it a new home. If you are interested, email me for

his phone number.

Somewhere along the way, he accumulated a spare '18 cylinder block and

some extra tappets for the same car. Let me know if you are interested.

One of his big loves is Ford Model As. He had several of them present and

one had a newly installed Borg Warner T-5 five speed trannie out of a Blazer.

It was a very sanitary installation and solved the overdrive problem better

than any other solution I have seen. Probably not much use to us as Hudsons

are mostly geared as high as it is safe to drive them and our cars are too

rare to seriously think of such a mod.
