San Diego Big 3 Swap

Well, Super Six fans, the Big 3 Swap happened in San Diego again this

year and we sure dodged a bullet with rain on both sides of it. As usual, the

SoWest Hudson community turned out in force and we had a very nice little

meet. The Hudson dinner was held at a different Mexican restaurant than in

years past. The service was supposed to be better, but I think that any small

improvement in that area was more than offset by the poor location and awful

parking. I can say however, that the Cadillac Margaritas were superb, and

things seemed to get more jolly as I had more of them. I remember at one

point having a talk with the bartender in a futile attempt to get him to

rename this excellent cocktail the "Super Six." He had some foolish excuse

about having to order all new glassware and printed materials, but it was not

very convincing!

As much fun as the swap was as a social event, it was, for me at least, a

write off. I saw almost nothing for any early Hudson. Sure there was the

usual smattering of mangled Hudson hubcaps, one wooden 27/28 wheel with badly

rotted wood and one supposedly '28 headlight lens, but nothing else that I

could see.

This swap is huge and I covered only two-thirds of it. Prolly the stuff I

was lookin for was just over in yonder isle. Mebbe next year . . .

There was a fellow with a lot of neat oddball stuff on display that was

offering a complete '28 Hudson Standard Sedan for sale. He had pictures of

the car on display and it looked pretty good. He said the car was an older

restoration, a driver, and that it needed a new mascot as the original was

deteriorating. The asking price is $12,000. For more details contact Dan
