Further to this, the tension of the spring is what regulates the

oil-pressure reading on the gauge. If the pressure reads too high

(i.e. off the gauge,) you will have to fit a weaker one, so it would

pay to get a fairly weak one to start with to save any possibility of

damaging the gauge. The reading should be anywhere between 2 and 5,

and is irrelevant as far as oil delivery goes, as it is just an

indication that the oil pump is actually working.
