Re: [HSS] Re:parts /Advice & Help needed
Martyn writes about his 1920 Super Six:
<< The distributor, the newness has definitely worn off and the timing when
observed with a light is at best erratic. >>
How is your timing chain? The distributor is driven from the water pump
chain and if the chain is loose or worn might give erratic readings.
<< I am sure it could be rebuilt but a spare would be handy. >>
These things are pretty simple and you should be able to put it in to
good condition with bushings, etc.
<< The distributor cap is so porous that in damp weather the car will not
start. The points (contact breakers) are also very tired. The autovac has
been cannibalized <snip> The cylinder head on my car is of the heavily
cracked variety. >>
Have you tried Dave Kostansek or Carl Webber for these parts? They both
have variable quantities of Super Six parts. Dave has often had ignition
parts in the past, so he would be my first try. He should be in the Roster,
but let me know if you need contact info.
<< The carburetor is labeled up Hudson is this the Marvel Carb so talked
about on this site or is that only fitted to later versions? >>
You should have not have a Marvel on your car. In some of the early years
Hudson used a Detroit Lubricator carb.
<< Was the car ever fitted with twin carbs ? If so which? >>
The racing side valve did have twin carbs. Does anybody know what carbies
were used?
