Re: [HSS] Hub Caps R Us
My other car is a '24 Sunbeam (very British). These cars were made in very
small numbers (1500 of my model over three years) and detail changes occured
frequently and often with any obvious reason. Sunbeam enthusiasts have
acknowledged that (a) nobody can be certain about minor detail items, (b)
Sunbeam were building cars for profit rather than for our pleasure 75 years
later and so (c) they probably bought these items in smallish batches at the
best price available.
Hudson, on the other hand, were building so many cars that they may have had
hubcap contracts with several suppliers. A slight style difference would
identify the manufacturer if defects were found. Or perhaps they were made in
house and somebody got bored with style A and produced something a little
different from time to time. Or maybe an unknown force emanating from the
Bermuda Triangle was to blame.........
And no, just now I haven't got anything better to do with my time.
Cheers!

Subject: [HSS] Hub Caps R Us
After the discussion a week or so ago about the message cast on the
hubcaps I had a look at some of the ones that I have laying around the place.
The parts car, "The Grapes of Wrath" had three HUDSON SUPER SIX caps a
HUDSON DETROIT MICH cap. Six or eight others laying around in stock were
mixed between HUDSON SUPER SIX and HUDSON MOTOR CO.
I also noticed some differences in the rolled lip and other minor
features. All caps are interchangeable and look so similar that I never
noticed any difference until it was pointed out here on this list.
When I next get over to the Hudson garage, I'll look to see what the
Coupe has. Has anybody developed a good working theory to account for the
differences?
