New 26 Motor

In just about a week, I am off to pick up the motor that will go into my

'26 Coupe. This road trip will be the culmination of a long process, one that

started soon after I bought the Coupe in late 1995.

The Coupe came with a running, but sick '29 F head installed, and since

the engine needed major work, it seemed best to look for the proper one. This

semi-custom Anderson bodied Coupe is a very late '26, late enough to have

come with a nickeled radiator shell and the '27 all wood steering wheel.

After a long search, I found that Jack Smith, long time Super Six

stalwart from Manitoba Canada had just the proper motor. In fact, he had a

whole extended wheelbase late '26 Hudson hearse with a completely rotted away

body sitting out back under a snow bank.

Jack was interested in selling the motor, and after waiting for the

Spring thaw and a year or so to overhaul it completely, we came to terms. It

took me a couple of years to pay for it, and now it is time to go and pick it

up. Jack has some business to do in Salt Lake City with our own Chris & Kelly

Purham and he has agreed to bring the '26 motor with him saving me a very

much longer journey.

I have seen the '29 that Chris & Kelly restored and even seen some of

their resto shop on their website, so a visit there will be a real treat. I

have met Jack many times over the phone, but never yet in person - another

pleasure to look forward to.

The rest of the Coupe is pretty much ready to go, needing kingpins

(anybody got a source on these?) and a brake reline (anybody got a good

source of the proper soft linings or any tips on how to R and R the linings

and reline them?) and maybe a new fuel line eliminating the electric pump as

I am going back to the good ole vacuum tank.

After 5 years, this Coupe may be ready for it's first tour this Winter or

Spring. I can't wait!
