Re: [HSS] "1921 Model O & 1922 Super Six Motor Generator No. 188"
Pete B,
Thanks for the data. Not sure at this stage whether more will be needed, but
it's great to have a source!
My scanning skills are limited but perhaps you have grandchildren (or
neighbours with 6-year old kids) - they'll bring you up to speed!!
Does anyone have experience with these starter/gens in respect of reliability
over the long term? It seems reasonable to assume they were OK if Hudson
continued them for another three years in RHD markets.
Another RHD quirk: I recall my '29 B&S Landau having incredibily hot pedals in
summer - my rubber-soled shoes actually stuck to them one day! This was because
the exhaust ran close to the pedals and I was too young and silly 40 years ago
to think about putting in a baffle or lagging the pipe.
Cheers.................Pete R.

Peter - here's what it has & hope this is some if not all of what you
need:
Stall Torque - 8 ft. lbs, 3.1 volts at motor
No Load Test - 60 Amperes at 6 Volts
Motor Brush Spring Tension - 1 3/4 - 2 1/4 lbs. on each
Generator Test - Hot: Cut-in 440 r.p.m. Maximum 16-18 amperes at
1300 r.p.m. Average output required, 15 amperes Note: Above
readings taken at generator. Readings at ammeter on dash will be 2
amperes lower. If generator is tested COLD, add 3 amperes to above
readings.
Generator Spring Tension - 1 1/2-1 3/4 lbs. on each.
There are other paragraphs on: "Bearings & Lubrication", Operation
as a Motor", "Operation as Generator", "To Adjust Charging
Rate", "Rotation While Generating", & " To Remove" which I assume you
don't want/need - if so let me know. There is also a 1 p. wiring
diagram.
This winter promise I'll learn how to send scans to Files section in
here (as well as Hudson 8 site)!!!
