I just happen to have a piece of the original material handy as a
replacement for it has bedeviled me for more than two years and the '26
project is very near to needing a replacement to proceed.
The original is 7/8 across and 3/16 thick. The color is kaki to light
olive, darker here and there. The darker spots MAY be ancient oil stains.
Restoration Supply has the perfect replacement BUT it is only half as thick
as it should be. Can anyone suggest a source for the proper material? If not,
I'm thinking of trying a double layer of the material on hand. Can anyone
suggest a method for stretching the material evenly over the shell and
getting the holes in the right place?
