I have NO interest in this auction ... nor do I know the seller.

  • i've been working on my collection for awhile now...
  • I was lucky I picked up the complete Proto set which has just about the same toolset. I used them when I rebuilt the Hydramatic in my Hornet. And after rebuilding it I was glad I had those tools. Makes it a heck of a lot easier to follow the manual when your tools match those in the book. Great for keeping the tranny running smooth. Adjusting the bands keeps it shifting smooth.
  • Considering that the BIN price is probably his reserve, it may be cheaper and easier just to visit a good trans shop.

Dave i agree, however there doesn't seem to be any reliable trans shops that you can trust on the east coast to work on these hydramatics.....

I'm not surprised to hear about the lack of shops who would know what, if anything, to do with a 50's era Hydra-matic transmission. I guess I'm lucky since the previous owner who restored my car owns a body shop and his nephew owns the shop that rebuilt my transmission. With only a few hundred miles on the restoration and trans rebuild, I hope to be good to go for a long time. Isn't there a shop out east called Fatso's or Fatco that rebuilds old Hydra-matics?

I just looked at the listing, and didn't see a BIN price or a reserve indicated- price was at a pretty reasonable (I think) $225. I've been trying to think of a good retirement business. . .
  • When the auction started, there WAS a BIN of $500.00. Sometimes if the first bidder doesn't select the BIN option, it converts to an auction. Or, perhaps the seller changed his mind and thought $500.00 was too cheap or posting a BIN price was a tip at what he was looking for. A seller can also modify or stop an auction at any time. If you want to know for sure, ask the seller.
