Speedo Cable Repaired

Attachments :
Thanks to the advice of John in AU, I repaired the speedo cable this past

weekend. It was kinked when the old motor came out and looked to be a goner.

The repair was simple enough. A bit of old tin can was cut into a

rectangular shape. It was bent into a tubular shape using a 3/8 ratchet

extension and a small ballpeen hammer. After wrapping the metal tube around

the kinked portion of the cable, two fuel line hose clamps were tightened

around the edges and the kinked area is now straight if somewhat stiffer than

it used to be. A coat of chassis black paint finished the job.

Next the inner cable needs to be lubed and installed and the cable

reinstalled in the car. I have heard that there is a special speedo cable

lube to use and that regular grease is not the right stuff. Has anybody got

any info on this? If not, I'll just lube it up with wheelbearing grease and

    have done with it.
