Great American Race Finale

Attachments :
Greetings from SoCal on Independence Day, the largest National holiday in

the U.S.A. The Great American Race started in Atlanta, GA and finished in

Pasadena, CA last Saturday and some of our local Hudson Super Six folk went

to greet the participants and oogle the machinery. Jeff & Heidi Gould, Lew &

Kathy Phelps and myself formed the local contingent.

As you may know, our own Bob Harris ran his 1928 Hudson Roadster in the

event, and it was a particular pleasure to meet Bob and his navigator Randy

in person at last. Bob had graciously removed the heavy bronze windshield

casting from his Roadster a couple of years ago so that a few of us could

have castings made from his master to further our '28 Roadster projects. We

sure owe you on that one Bob!

In addition to Bob's '28, there were four other Super Sixes present in

Pasadena, all early model Super Six race cars. One of them, No 17 the 1917

"Indy Racer" placed second overall. The immaculately stunning car has a

modified motor producing something like 100 - 115 hp, an AL body and weighs

only 2200 lbs. Top speed is said to be 102 mph.

I had a bit of a chat with the navigator, Gary Kuck and he has now joined

the Super Six list. As you might guess, he knows these cars inside and out

and will have some hard won tips to share that can only come from someone

that has spent so much time with these cars in difficult circumstances.

    Welcome aboard Gary!

I will be posting some pics of the cars over the next week or so and will

begin with a snap of Bob's '28 Roadster with some of our local group.
