Tail Light Rim Removal?
Attachments :
Thanks to the kindness of one of our list members (thanks Zeke), I now
have a NOS tail light assembly for the '26 Hudson Coupe. I would like to take
it apart and clean out 75 years of storage dust and grime and give the
reflectors a polish, but the rim will not come off.
The rim has a bayonet mount with fixed pins at the 10 o'clock and 2
o'clock positions and a removable machine screw at the 6 o'clock. The screw
came out easily enough (whatever held it in seems to have fallen out of
position), but the rim is stuck solidly on the case. I has sprayed lots of
Aerokroil inside, but it's still refusing to budge even with the best efforts
of two large men twisting the parts in opposite directions.
Has anyone got any suggestions? Baring some clever suggestion here, my
next step will be to go get one of the strap wrenches made with a big rubber
band to try to increase the turning pressure. I would sure hate to distort
the case by twisting too much. A pic is attached.
