<< Well I'm back and we survived ! The Race was a tough one with lots of

mountains to pull and a day and a half of desert. We had a one day DNF ( Did

Not Finish ) due to the distributor drive bronze part, the one that shifts or

slides as the water pump sprocket is tightened. I knew that this was a weak

link and had carried a steel replacement for two years on the race, but left

it on the bench this year.

I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND CARRYING A SPARE OR A STEEL COPY IF YOU ARE

GOING TO PUT THE ENGINE UNDER HEAVY LOAD FOR A LONG PERIOD. Fortunately a

friend and fellow Hudson Super Six owner on the race had one. >>

Is somebody making these parts up now Bob? I would certainly like to have

3 of them and I'll bet others on this list would like to have them as well. I

am due to replace the chain on the '29 and it would make sense to add this

new steel part at the same time.

<< All other failures were non-Super Six related. Tires and tubes are very

important, I had installed new COKER tires and tubes at the start of the

Race, on one wheel the tube stem hole was not large enough for the stem, so

the tube did not sit flat on the rim and boot and therefore wore and went

flat (at 55 mph). >>

This must have been very exciting! Did the tube "blow out" or give you a

bit of time to pull safely off?

<< Randy Svajda our navigator, is an experienced professional mechanic and

kept us running, but required several late night sessions. >>

We should also add that he is a pretty good sort. He gave some of our

local Super Six contingent a guided tour of his engine room, a space he

obviously knows well.

<< Paul if you will tell me how to access the YaHoo pictures I will post some

pictures I have of the race. I would also be glad to post dimensions of the

steel drive part on here if there is an interest. >>

No worries, this is pretty easy to do. First go to the Super Six list

home page:

Note that this bypasses Yahoo by going onto the page via the egroups UK

entrance. Egroups is easier to deal with than Yahoo. If you work well with

Yahoo, you can do the same job by using the address in the signature line at

the bottom of the page.

On the left side of your screen are a list of titles. Choose Files and

click on it. That will take you to the Files page. Choose an existing folder,

or create a new one as it suites you. Open the folder that you you choose or

created. You now can click on the Upload File button and that will get you a

dialog box with a Browse button. Click on it and navigate to the pics you

wish to upload in your computer's system. You may type in a label for your

pic in the box just under the Browse button. Scroll down (if required) and

hit the Upload File button. Repeat the process as many times as you need to.

<< This is the 4th Great Race for the Hudson and has finished all of them,

1988, 1997,1998,2001, also Texas Great race 1996,1997,1998, 2000, 2001. >>

That's a heck of a record, Bob. Did you drive the '28 Roadster in all of

these events?

<< I really enjoyed the visit in Pasadena with the Super Six crew that came

out.

Thanks for your interest. Bob Harris ' 28' Hudson Super Six Roadster No.28

I think I can safely say that all of us that turned up in Pasadena were

very pleased to make your acquaintance as well. Perhaps next time we can

share a wee dram (or two) and show you some Texas BBQ, California style?
