Newly Acquired 1929 Town Sedan -- several issues
Greetings to all. I have posted in the past to the group regarding a
1929 Standard Sedan that I was considering buying. I didn't get it,
but thanks to a good steer from Paul O'Neil have ended up acquiring a
1929 Town Sedan. It is being shipped in the next week from its
current home in Raymond, WA to my home in Pasadena, CA.
My wife and flew up to Portland a few weekends ago and drove up the
coast to Raymond to inspect the car. The body is mostly restored and
re-painted to unbelievably high standards (former high-end body shop
owner did the work, all the exterior chrome work has been re-chromed
very well, and a new upholstery job has been done that exactly
matches the stitching pattern of the OEM job. Some body parts remain
to be painted (hood, luggage rack, visor, etc). And there are a few
mechanical issues, which is the main point of this missive. I could
use counsel on the following points:
1. The carburetor leaks like a sieve. Right now the car is running on
an electric fuel pump (although I am getting an unattached, original
vacuum pump). The problem may go away when I install a pressure
regulator Paul has donated to the cause. If that doesn't work, what
else can I do? The leakage is through various joints, so I suspect
gaskets. Any other ideas?
2. The rotary headlight switch, currently not mounted on the car, is
frozen with corrosion. I will of course try to clean it up and get it
functioning. If that fails, any ideas where I can get a replacement?
(In the latter respect, I'm currently bidding on a 1929 Super Six
wiring diagram that's on eBay. If I win I will scan it and post to
this web site.)
I'll be posting bunches of photos of the new baby in the Phelps
household in the near future, along with a link to the site where I
will have them.
