Re: [HSS] Web Site
Well, I guess this needs to be addressed. There are discussions at the
National level as to the Web Sight. The problem is not creating the Web
Sight& it is creating and operating the chat page. This is a very expensive
process. If you think about it, Classicar provided basically 2 products, the
chat and BB function, and the news information pages. Their idea was to seek
revenue from advertising to fund the page and make a profit. They were fairly
successful in obtaining advertisers. However, even with the revenue from
these advertisers the page was not profitable. As a mater of fact the chats,
while costing the most to operate, did not support their own expenses. Just
think of the cost per person if the chat were only subsidized by our
membership.
Now there are differences between Classicar and us. First, we don't need to
make a profit, thank goodness. Second, we have a bunch of volunteer labor.
It would be nice if we could find volunteer talent to assist in this area.
Third, we do not benefit from the economies of scale that Classicar enjoyed.
This is not to say that these concerns are insurmountable, rather to say that
this is a serious subject. A subject which, if done improperly, could
bankrupt the Club.
So, there is a lot to be considered. If you have any ideas; please pass them
on. Remember, it wasn't the elected officers who set up our relationship
with Classicar; it was a volunteer.
Please let me know if you have any ides or pass them on to John Clement.
Your help needed if we are to enjoy the level of communication we previously
enjoyed.
