Rear Main Bearing
Gentlemen,
Having the bottom off my 1917 Hudson engine for the first time I
have run into a problem, I hope someone can help with. The rear main
bearing is not removable in the conventional manner. After removing
the four nuts and pulling straight the bearing down it will only fall
about a 1/2 inch. It appears there is an attachment to the rear of
the bearing (similiar to an oil slinger), that protrudes into a
recess in the pressure plate thus preventing it from being pulled
straight down. Therefore it seems that the transmission, clutch and
pressure plate have to be removed to get to this bearing. If anyone
has a different or easier solution please advise.
