Nickel Quality

Attachments :
I have often noticed that the original nickel plating on the old cars is

vastly superior to that we can get today. My plater knows nickel and has done

some nice work, but it tarnishes in just a matter of weeks. He assures me

that it is the proper pure nickel "Watts" process not the alloyed stuff used

    under chrome, but I wonder . . .

The finish looks right when freshly polished, but damn, it needs

polishing every month! The original stuff seemed much more hardy. Anybody got

an idea why? The nickel on the rim in this pic is 75 years old and it looks

as good as the parts plated last year. I have compared the plating next to

the new stuff and could see no difference.

Anybody got a good nickel plater in the SoCal area?
