Side draft carburetor
When the Great Race stopped in Lexington KY this summer, I struck up
a conversation with someone who was with one of the
early "speedsters". I asked him what they did about the packing gland
in the side draft carburetor. The owners manual says to use soft
candle wicking. Not the best stuff. The person I talked to went back
to his tool box and fished out a white o-ring and gave it to me. He
said that would cure the problem. It did! If that person is on this
list;Thank you. That little ring solved all of my rough idling and
flooding problems. Before I replaced the packing, the car would only
idle at a high rpm. Now it idles smooth at any rpm. Anyone with a
sidedrafter should check that packing gland ocasionally. To those of
you with updrafts, well... Zeke
