This photo turns up quite frequently. I think the guy has either a negative
or a very good print and he's doing a nice little business selling prints.
Good luck to him. The car's not a racer in the true sense. It's the one
that was driven by Ralph Mulford in 1916 to set a new 24-hour record of
1,819 miles (see page 50 of the Butler book). It looks as though for
publicity purposes fenders, valances, running boards and spare wheels were
put back in place so that it looked more like a "standard" Super Six. The
giveaway is the absence of a winscreen and the shape of the cowl with the
little lip that might have worked as a wind defelctor. On the other hand,
there could have been two cars - one to set records and the other for
publicity. I'd be happy to get my mitts on either of them!
