***Are you looking at the amp gauge or the fuel gauge? I don't see how

the fuel gauge could act like this unless you have the input wire to the

gauge connected up to the negative side of the coil. In this

instance, when you retard the ignition the points will open, causing no

circuit to earth.

***Could be the same problem. The input to the SW terminal on the back

of the gauge should be from the ignition switch. The wire from the

other side of the gauge goes back to the tank.

***You have to remove the fuel tank to get access to the fuel gauge

sender.

Answers above marked***. Have you checked that all terminals are tight

on the iginition circuit? What voltage do you have at the coil?

should be full 6 volts. The wiring is so simple on these cars you

should be able to trouble shoot in no time at all.
