To wire up the iginition using a conventional switch you will need to

break the circuit from the centre wire of the electrolock to the

distributor base plate. Connect from the ammeter to one side of your

toggle switch, from the other side of the switch to the + coil terminal

and the fuel gauge, from the - coil terminal connect to the distributor

base plate. The distributor works in reverse to normal, in that the

breaker arm is connected to earth, and the fixed point to the voltage.

Incidentally, if you still want your car to look reasonably original,

just take the armoured cable and switch out and fit a new keyswitch.

You can tie the armoured cable back up under the dash somewhere. You

will have to make up a connection to the distributor contact. However,

as Lewis says, they can be rebuilt, so this is the best option.
