Annual Sump Cleanout?

It used to be considered SOP (standard operating practice) to remove the

pan once a year for cleanout and inspection. Is there any reason to do this

nowadays? Our modern oils keep things pretty clean even without a filter. I

have been thinking of fixing the leak on the '29 and having a look at the

bottom end at the same time.
