Re: [HSS] Questions

Not often I can reply with any information of value, and this may be the day
either!
Death Wobble. Sounds like a heavy duty belly dancer! A friend had the
same problem (not on a Hudson) and it turned out to be mainly to do with the
absence or incorrect installation of a little wedge plate needed to provide
the right castor angle for the entire front axle. But this guy is really
slack - he also had wrong tyre pressures and no shock absorbers. The latter
weren't strictly necessary but they can help.
Advance Lever. Sounds as though the sliding block and spring may be
missing. Have a look at the hand throttle control - the mechanism is the
same. I made up these bits - filed and ground at a piece of
bakelite/plastic to get the right shape and just shortened a spring I found
in the local hardware place.
35 x 5 Tyres and Tubes. I bought a set of four about 18 months back here in
Australia, and they're still available. Expensive, but isn't almost
everything? The pic attached shows one of my racer wheels fitted with BF
Goodrich tyres. The rim isn't original but my budget couldn't handle having
locking ring-type rims manufactured. You should also think very hard about
"dust bands" that sit inside the rim and protect your tube from dust/dirt
entering via spoke holes, valve or wherever. If you have wire wheels they
also provide a degree of protection against any sharp spoke ends that
haven't been fully ground down.
