Oil pressure problem resolved
For all who have provided input on my ongoing saga with lack of
oil pressure on my '29 Town Sedan, I'm happy to report that the
problem has now been resolved. I finally bit the bullet and
dropped the oil pan to see of the oil intake tube was clogged.
Sure enough, that was the source of the problem.
It turns out that the Prior Owner had put in a new tube that was
so long it literally bumped against the bottom of the oil pan. In
addition, it had been crudely cut off, and was pinched down to
about 1/2 its normal diameter. Consequently, it was completely
choked off with semi-solid gunk. I cut off one inch of the tube with
a tube cutter, put things back together, and oil pressure was
immediately restored. While I was at it, I replaced the cork on the
float that measures the oil level.
Special thanks to Paul O'Neil, who loaned me a spare pump to
install for diagnostic purposes. Paul, since the pump wasn't the
problem after all, I'll pull yours off the engine this weekend, re-
install my own, and ship yours back to you in Fullerton. Many
thanks.
Now I can get back to the fun stuff, like finishing the rewiring and
getting the brakes adjusted to fit with the new shoes from White
Post. then I should be back on the road.
