Starting problems

Hi, I have been having some troubles starting my 1926 Hudson. The car

will start fine when it has been sitting for a while. The car runs

and drives well. The problem occurs when I want to stop the car and

restart it. When I try to restart it it does not want to start. It

seems to do this all of the time now and I have tried different

techniques to get it to start (choke, some choke, no choke, spark

settings different, etc.) The only way I have been able to get it to

start is to purposely flood it by pulling up on the float needle

valve and then turning it over a few times until it fires. The car

has an electrical fuel pump. I have also had some problems with the

battery. I am wondering if this is connected to my starting problem.I

recently drove the car at night for a while and I left the lights on

while idiling for about ten minutes (which I should not have done).

When I went to drive off the car died and the battery was completely

dead. The ammeter had been showing a charge. How much should it

normally show? After using my battery charger to jump the car (which

took several attempts) the car would start to die if I ran with the

lights on. Any suggestions for starting or why the battery may be

losing charge? Thanks, Pace
