Lew, the adjustment procedure must be followed in the correct sequence,

otherwise you up the creek without a paddle! first, loosen off both

large anchor pin nuts, free of the backing plate, so the anchor pin

anchor can slide up and down. Then loosen off the eccentric lock nut

and turn the eccentric to it's inward position. The eccentric is at

the rear of the backing plate, on the flat inner surface. Next turn

the notched adjuster between the shoes so that the brake shoes are as

absolutely tight as they can go, then tap the ends of the anchor pins

with a lead hammer so they assume their natural position, and tighten

the large nuts. Then back off the notched wheel so the wheel can

turn. Then turn the eccentric so the rear shoe is just contacting the

drum. Now tighten the notched wheel again until the front shoe is just

contacting the drum, and you should be just about there. You may have

to go over this procedure a few times just to get things right. Good

luck,

Geoff.
