to maintain minimal clearance between the thrust button and the timing
case. This method was used also in the earlu Essex sixes. Rule of
thumb is to insert wahsers intil you feel the timing case bottoming on
them, and take them out one by one until it goes on without hitting.
Or you could get all professional and measure the distance between the
mating surfaces (allowing for gasket thickness) and the thrust pad on
the timing case.
