29 tail lights (includes attachment)
Attachments :
Some of you on the list will recall that last November I launched a
began exploration of having tail light shells reproduced for my '29
Town Sedan. As of today, we are looking at a cost of $150 each for the
shells, without the "innards," lenses, or front lens holder piece. Ouch!
Last night I was thumbing through a JC Whitney catalog and came across
what may be an acceptable substitute. They sell a stainless steel tail
light for the 1929-31 Ford Model A, which they describe in the catalog
as including a stamped "Bi-Lite Logo". From that info and the photo I
obtained online (attached), this appears very similar to, if not
identical to, the Brown Bi-Lite that was OEM on our '29 Hudsons
(except, of course, that it's stainless steel rather than chrome).
Is anyone familiar with the Whitney product, or can anyone comment
based on the attached photo whether this is a reasonable substitute for
the OEM light? (Cost is an issue: Whitney charges $18 per light.)
I have ordered a pair of the Whitney lights (left and right side) so I
can see for myself; I'll post comparative photos of the OEM and the
Whitney lights when they arrive. If they aren't suitable, I'll just
return 'em.
