inserted here. These of course soon wore away, allowing the lubricant
to spray out, as Paul has described. I have found it much better to use
a modern O-ring in here, but even then they tend to leak a bit. I also
know of others who have adapted a modern U-joint when the orignal spicer
unit has worn out, and this cures the problem once and for all.
