I can't help with specific info on the Essex cars as I am more familiar
with the Hudson models. IF the '29 Essex shares the same set up with the
Hudson, the ignition switch is connected to the coil with a bit of armored conduit
making it one sealed piece. This was called an Electrolock and for the Hudsons
at least, is VERY tough to come by. I have been looking for years without
finding one. I just replaced the switch with a generic auto parts store unit and
the coil with a standard 6v universal coil. It works fine, and very few can
tell it's wrong.
Can anyone help Werner out with an Essex rim? I'll bet you find one of
those as there were so many Essex cars around. The Hudson equivalent is a
tougher nut to crack, however!
