28 wooden wheel rims

I've had some Hudson guys tell me that wooden wheels are the worst

and will not run smoothly. I, however, am of the opinion that the

problem with wooden wheels is the old tweaked rims we're forced to

use, that the wheels themselves turn true.

I've often wondered how big a market would exist if these rims were

reproduced. As you know the first of any reproduced part is the most

expensive. I think 27-29 rims are the same? or at least I know 27 &

28 are. (I bet Paul knows this).

I've also wondered: what if we redesigned the rims? Manufacture the

rims so the outside is identical, but make the rims solid with a

removeable split ring on the inside - such as split rings on wire

wheels.

What do people think? original type? modified? or no market for such?

And, is there a recommended wooden spoke replacement guy out there?
